{p,h,f,r} Or, Hey! I Took Pictures This Week!

Pretty is my girl, who is all of a sudden quite taken with having her picture made! Whether she cooperates is still kind of hit-or-miss, because sometimes she thinks I want a nice photograph, and then she hides in the pillows. But if it’s her idea, we’re good to go.

Happy is my boy’s fourteenth birthday! His favorite gift? A chain mail shirt, of course, which every fourteen year old boy needs. Delaney and Megan made his cake, as I wasn’t feeling well. Didn’t they do a fine job?

Funny is four children playing very happily inside of a giant cardboard freezer box. They just never tire of appliance boxes. My wallet, however, is somewhat tired of buying them.

Real is the need for some Tidying Up Therapy. I took the morning off, while I am still feeling well, to do a bit of cleaning in the kitchen. It was very much worth it. Somehow, bringing a little bit of order and beauty to your space helps to make all the things you can’t order a little more manageable. Anyway, that box we bought for the kids to play in contained a large upright freezer, and in order to make room for it, we had to move a few things around in the kitchen. I kind of like the neat-but-slightly-cluttered-with-things-I-love-and-use look (yes, that’s a real decorating style!) over the spare, clean, minimalist look. I don’t have it in me to be a minimalist anyway. Is that even possible with more than two people in a family? It looks nice in pictures, but in real life, there is stuff.

Thanks for visiting me today, and I hope you’ll leave a note to say hello. That’s something I’m working on, too: leaving comments on the posts I read. Hope you have a lovely weekend, anyway!

Oh, and visit Like Mother, Like Daughter for more {p,h,f,r}!

Hello Jennie :) Thanks for reminding me that while the minimalist pictures can be pretty, they’re quite unreasonable. In real life, with lots of people, and things to be used, there will always be an amount of stuff required. Have a beautiful day !

my kids love cardboard boxes too! To save a little money, you may see if there is a local music store that will give you tuba boxes- they’re HUGE. Or even an appliance store that will part with some. We try to get one or two during the winter months. It keeps the kids busy for so long!

Thanks, Laura! I do actually use most of these things, too. I like to decorate in useful items. :-) Trivets come off the wall to keep hot pans off the table. Bowls and platters come off the shelf to hold our biscuits and salads. That shelf, though, houses my cookbook collection, or most of it. I just love cookbooks, especially the kind I call “literary”, that tell a story along with the recipes!

That rack USED to be an exterior window that looked into the living room the previous folks added on. We drywalled it up, added some paint and some rails, and voila! I love that “window” so much. :-)
